Wu Yanping was imprisoned for her religious belief and activity.
On June 28, 2013, police detained Wu while she was attending a worship gathering in Fuxin city, Liaoning province.
In January 2015, the Fuxin City Court sentenced Wu to nine years in prison for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).
Wu was taken to Liaoning Women’s Prison to serve her sentence.
Wu's sentence should have ended in June 2022.
Prior to her most recent imprisonment, Wu spent three years in prison between 2003 to 2005 for her religious belief.
