Xia Mingjin was imprisoned for her religious activity. 

On April 3, 2018, authorities arrested Xia while hanging Falun Gong-related banners. She was reportedly mistreated while detained.  

In late 2019, Xia was sentenced to two years in prison.

In January 2020, the Nanchong City Intermediate Court reportedly rejected Xia's appeal. 

On April 3, 2020, Xia was released from prison.

Xia reportedly developed severe insomnia while imprisoned.
