Yang Xiaoming is forcibly disappeared for her religious belief and activity. 

In May 2022, authorities detained Yang and initiated a criminal investigation against her for practicing Falun Gong. She was released on bail. 

In March 2023, Xishan District Court authorities sentenced her to 7 years' imprisonment and fined her 20,000 yuan for her religious practice. Authorities permitted her to remain at home due to her blindness and other health conditions. 

In March 2026, authorities forcibly disappeared Yang from her home. 

Prior to her disappearance, authorities subjected Yang to years of forced labor and beat her while in custody, causing or exacerbating her blindness.
