Zafar Nodirov is imprisoned for his religious belief and activity.
On December 6, 2016, authorities arrested Nodirov after accusing him of being a member of the banned Hizb ut-Tahrir organization. Prosecutors accused him of organizing in Hizb ut-Tahrir meetings, studying the organization's literature, discussing political and religious issues, and seeking to attract new members for the organization.
On February 15, 2019, the Moscow District Military sentenced Nodirov to 16 years in prison for "organizing the activities of an organization…recognized as terrorist" (Art. 205.5-1 RCC).
On September 19, 2019, Nodirov's sentence was upheld.
On February 7, 2022, it was reported that the 1st Eastern District Military Court sentenced Nodirov to three years in prison for "publicly justifying terrorism or terrorism propaganda" (Art. 205.2-1 RCC). It is unclear how this sentence impacts his total time expected to be served.
