Zhao Hongliang is detained for his religious activity and leadership role. 

In February 2025, authorities arrested Zhao, pastor of Xinyi Village (Covenant) Church, along with several other members of his church after some members dismantled surveillance equipment installed in the church by governing authorities. The church also refused to comply with government orders to remove the cross and exclude children from their worship services. Authorities confined him at Huainan PSB Detention Center in Tianjia’an district.
