Zhou Hualan is imprisoned for her religious belief and activity.
On March 23, 2017, police detained Zhou reportedly in relation to her religious beliefs and activity. Police also reportedly confiscated religious materials and electronics at at the location of Zhou's arrest. Zhou was reportedly tortured while detained.
On January 4, 2018, Zhou was sentenced to eight years in prison and fined 15,000 yuan for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).
Zhou is believed to be serving her sentence in Jiangxi Women’s Prison.
