Hu Xiuzhen was imprisoned for her religious belief and activity.

On March 20, 2015, officers from the Feng County Public Security Bureau in Jiangsu province detained Hu reportedly in relation to her religious leadership role, storing religious materials, and efforts to organize gatherings and evangelizing activities. There is reporting that Hu was tortured during her interrogations.

On October 26, 2016, the Feng County People’s Court of Jiangsu Province sentenced Hu to five years in prison and fined her 20,000 yuan for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).

Hu is believed to have served her sentence at Nantong City Women’s Prison, Jiangsu.

Hu's sentence should have ended in March 2020.

On June 1, 2017, authorities detained Gan reportedly in relation to her hosting of higher level Church of Almighty God leadership.

On October 22, 2018, the Shizhong District People’s Court of Zaozhuang city sentenced Gan to five years in prison and fined her 50,000 yuan for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL).

Gan was believed to be serving her sentence at Shandong Province Women’s Prison.

Gan's sentence should have ended in June 2022.
