On October 23, 2012, public security officials detained 6 Tibetans, including Dondrub, at the scene of a self-immolation in Xiahe (Sangchu) county, Gannan (Kanlho) Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Gansu province.
On January 31, 2013, the Xiahe County People’s Court reportedly sentenced Dondrub to 12 years in prison for “intentional homicide” (Art. 232 CCL).

In November 2012, security officials detained Phagpa, reportedly for having conversations in favor of self-immolation protests. Phagpa also reportedly possessed pro-independence material, sent information about self-immolations outside of China, provided money to self-immolators' families, and organized protests at government offices.
On February 8, 2013, the Huangnan Intermediate People’s Court sentenced him to 13 years in prison on either for "attempted" or "intentional" homicide (Art. 232 CCL) and "inciting others to split the state" (Art. 103 (2) CCL).

On December 10, 2018, public security officials in Aba (Ngaba) county, Aba (Ngaba) Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan province, detained Gyatso, a teenage monk at Ngaba's Kirti Monastery, reportedly for participating in a solo protest calling for "freedom for Tibetans." Authorities reportedly beat him before arresting him.
