On February 28, 2013, the Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Region (TAP) Intermediate People’s Court sentenced Dorje to 15 years in prison for “intentional homicide” (Art. 232 CCL). Authorities reportedly accused Dorje of "inciting" an individual to self-immolate.
