Jin Liyan is imprisoned for her religious activity. 

On June 27, 2016, police in Ningde municipality, Fujian province, detained Jin in relation to her production and dissemination of Falun Gong promotional materials.

On May 10, 2017, the Jiaocheng People's Court sentenced Jin to eight years in prison for "organizing or using a cult to undermine implementation of the law" (Art. 300 CCL) and fined her 20,000 yuan.

On August 2, 2017, the Ningde Intermediate People's Court rejected Jin's appeal.
