Lobsang Gephel is imprisoned for his adherence to a religious figure.

On November 30, 2015, authorities arrested Gephel, a monk, after accusing him of organizing observances to celebrate the Dalai Lama's 80th birthday. 

On December 6, 2016, the Aba Tibetan & Qiang Autonomous Prefecture (T&QAP) Intermediate People’s Court sentenced Gephel to 12 years in prison on unspecified charges.
